We prepare your brand to give it the greatest chance at success in the market. Our Market Test program gets your brand in front of 15-20 of the retailers that are the best potential fit. It is a fixed cost and timeframe which enables you to gain valuable insights and determine if this is the right time for you to test the waters. For under $20,000 and in about 90 days you will have your brand in front of some of the top retailers in the country.
A brand should expect a minimum of three to five years to expand nationally.
This process starts with being anchored in a key account, whether a regional chain like Central Market or Wegmans, and expanding out from there in accounts that pull from the distributor that services the key account. This provides an invaluable opportunity to get established and understand how the consumer responds to pricing, promotion, etc. while ensuring the proper supply chain to service them.
Next, VP Solution helps add additional accounts that pull from the distributor that services that initial key account. In our experience, we’ve found that during the first year of the brand entering retail, it may miss key category reviews due to the timing of the brand’s launch. This means that realistically, many accounts will not be able to bring the brand in until year two. Many brands can expect to go through two reviews before being accepted.
We also offer a program (Market Test) that gets the product in front of these buyers for consideration (sometimes a retailer will expedite a brand onto the shelf in a “speed to shelf” program). This is also a great way to get initial feedback on the brand.
There are “slotting fees” to get on shelf. Sometimes a retailer will ask for a “free fill” meaning one to two cases of your product at no cost per SKU (individual item) per store. This is not inexpensive and is the norm for almost all chain accounts and it must be planned for as part of your growth plans. For example, if a case of your product has a wholesale price of $10 and you have five varieties, it will be $50 per store.
